NON-RESIDENT ALIEN TAXATION
VOLUNTEER INFORMATION, NRA VITA SITE

tiger paw Volunteers are sought to staff the 2009 Nonresident Alien (NRA) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site to assist international students and researchers with tax return preparation for tax year 2009. This is a unique opportunity to get involved with the international community on campus and to receive high-level training (and IRS NRA VITA certification) on tax issues.

Volunteers need not have previous experience with tax return preparation, and will not be expected to do line-by-line tax return preparation as a result of going through this training. International students and researchers will complete their own returns using the computer software provided. Volunteers will be expected to answer software-related and some tax return-related questions. Volunteers will not be expected to staff the VITA site alone - there will always be a minimum of two volunteers scheduled at all times.

Training has not been scheduled yet but the training time will be posted to this website as soon as it is scheduled.

Volunteers must complete and pass each component of the NRA VITA volunteer certification test prior to being scheduled at the NRA VITA site.

In addition to the NRA VITA site, there will be tax return assistance provided for persons who are Resident Aliens for tax purposes who have tax treaty benefits available. Watch this website for announcements of when this tax return assistance will be scheduled. Volunteer assistance at these workshops would also be appreciated.
